Sunny days, swimming, sweet strawberries and watermelon, frozen lemonades!
Do you enjoy the sunny days and the serene summer evenings in your yard, balcony or terrace? If so, you may have realized that there is something you want to change in your outdoor space. Perhaps the space is very cramped with the furniture you have chosen, or it may seem a bit monotonous and uninviting, maybe not comfortable enough or lacks the green element.
So I have gathered for you some ideas and hints for your new balcony. Of course these ideas can also be applied to your garden, yard, or rooftop!

What do you do when your balcony needs more space? I have some ideas that will inspire you to make the most of your available space.
Before choosing new balcony furniture, it is advisable to think about what purpose you want to use your balcony for. For example, do you want to use it as a summer dining room and have your meals there when the weather allows it? Or maybe you want your balcony to be a place you will be able to lie down and sunbathe. Alternatively you might prefer it to be a place where you will be able to read your book in a comfortable seat, in the shade. You may want to use the balcony as a place to entertain your loved ones. So, after deciding how you want to take advantage of your small balcony, then you will be able to easily choose outdoor furniture.
Then to make the most of your space, you need to think about which furniture will be more flexible. For example, if you want a corner where you can sit with your friends, but you can't fit a whole living room, use a smaller sofa with some stools as extra seats. Then the stools can be stacked on top of each other when they are not used so that they do not take up so much space. Alternatively if you mainly want to use your small balcony as an additional dining room, a coffee shop-type table with folding chairs is ideal.
Do not forget that you can find various small, folding balcony furniture, which is ideal for small spaces.
Make sure to measure your balcony length, width and depth before choosing your furniture so you can move easily and avoid furniture swallowing the entire space.
A hospitable and cozy balcony
Do you want your balcony to be an oasis of serenity and relaxation? I have some thoughts on how to make your balcony more inviting.
If you want somewhere you can relax with a good book or enjoy the sunny days, then a smaller sunbed or a balcony sofa can be the perfect choice for you. The sofa will give your small balcony the feeling of a second living room. Also a sunbed or a small sofa can be even more comfortable and welcoming with outdoor pillows and throws. Decorate the balcony with beautiful, soft fabrics to create a warm and intimate feeling. (Also for winter a large and soft carpet adds an extra luxurious touch to your balcony.)
Do not forget to light your evenings on the balcony, with elegant lamps. Lighting is one of the most important features for this warm atmosphere and it also makes your balcony appear larger.
Green is necessary
You can transform your balcony into a lush oasis by decorating with beautiful plants and elegant pots. Plants can also contribute to some extent to a sense of privacy and above all they will create a more intimate and hospitable atmosphere. If you live in Greece or somewhere warm, choose Mediterranean plants that can withstand warmer climates. If you have dried plants that can no longer be saved, it's time to get rid of them.
You can also add herbs, which will give off a wonderful aroma to your balcony and can be used in cooking.
Of course you have to choose the right pots! If you have a larger outdoor space, you can choose one or more large pots for a statement effect. A good idea is to group large pots at different heights and shapes to create a sense of height and depth in your outdoor space. Some of my favorite pots are terracotta, because they bring a rustic, Mediterranean touch, which I think fits in with summer. You can also choose pots in vibrant colors or with patterns.
Decorate with your own aesthetic
Decor is a particularly personal affair. But I would like to mention some options, which I find to fit many outdoor spaces.
The Mediterranean and Boho style: ceramics, terracotta, bamboo, ratan, wood and boho patterns, fit perfectly with the summer vibes and I think they fit a lot of tastes.
Maybe you prefer something a little more minimal in your decor. You can give a dynamic statement with a few decorative and more dynamic furniture, either in colors, in material or design.
Finally, decorating with lanterns and candles will turn the balcony into a more dreamy space. Lanterns and candles are a perfect way to create a warm and hospitable atmosphere when the sun has set.
