Close with nature and natural materials

As mentioned above, the modern bathroom is perceived as a place of relaxation. That’s why interior designers and architects try to bring to this space what we miss the most at this time. Being close with nature. So we observe the presence of plants but also motifs, such as tropical and botanical patterns.

In terms of materials, nature dominates again, with natural choices such as wood and stone. The presence of stone is quite strong, along with marble, onyx, brick, clay and cement. Regarding the colors, neutral tones such as beige and white are combined with dark and light green that enhances the sense of contact with nature.

As in other rooms, so in the bathroom, natural light is very important, with glass walls being used extensively, connecting the bathroom with the garden. To achieve this feeling of relaxation and escape, the bathroom takes the form of a spa. In a future article we will explore some hints to turn your bathroom into a luxury spa.

We also see smart solutions and interesting techniques for saving water.

The bathroom extends to other spaces

We have mentioned in previous articles that one of the trends we see in this year's rooms is the absence of limits. As we already saw, the bathroom removes the boundaries with the outside space, to bring us in contact with nature. It does the same thing with the interior, combining bathroom with bedroom.

In order to harmoniously combine these two rooms, minimal decoration and neutral, simple elements are chosen. For example, the bathroom curtain is replaced with transparent glass.

Glass walls are also used as a means of separating the two rooms, as is the use of stairs, creating uneven spaces.

Freestanding bathtubs are used more and more, enhancing the aesthetic of the spa but also being a reference point in the bathroom.

In terms of materials, wood, stone and marble in white, beige, or green shades, give an elegant result and at the same time unite the two rooms. Cement is also used to give an industrial aesthetic.

The bathroom takes a bold form and personality with strong decorative elements

Who said you can't put your personal touch by decorating your bathroom? The logic of a simple space that serves nothing but our basic needs is changing. Now the trends indicate the need to bring our own special style and aesthetic to the bathroom.

As the trends of Japandi and Hygge advocate, the minimal and the practical are combined with the decorative, with uniqueness and smart solutions. We see interesting applications such as the presence of a mirror that emits light but also classic options, such as mosaic in new special designs and colors. The new and modern meet the classic, the retro and the vintage.

In an effort to give character to a space, designers make choices such as bright colors, wallpapers, interesting bathtubs, statement furniture in the form of sculptures, in materials such as marble, resin or stone, rounded art deco mirrors, retro spherical wall lamps and much more.

Both brass and steel in bathroom accessories are elegant and timeless choices, but the most modern touch is now given by the details that have a matte black color, regardless of the style of the bathroom.

This year's trends offer something for all tastes!

Hint:

This trend can be easily recreated in your home, without having to change tiles. Just use grout around your tiles, in a bright and fun color. You can use the same color to paint the rest of your walls or ceiling. This technique will tie in easier with your space if your tiles are monochrome and relatively small. If your tiles are white or some other neutral color, you can use grout in bright colors such as red, blue, yellow or pink. If your tiles are in a bright color, you can use black or gold and create contrast.

Bathroom in neutral tones

As we go through a period that can be considered difficult for everyone, the zen bathroom can enhance the feeling of calmness and serenity.

Natural materials such as rattan or wicker, objects with handmade textures, neutral colors such as beige, gray, maroon, sand or caramel color, are used on walls and tiles and combined with wooden details.

But, white continues its presence, giving a sense of cleanliness that can reassure us.

Smart technology and sustainable solutions

Technology's contribution to the peace and tranquility offered by the bathroom of 2021, is very important. We see smart bathtubs that heat water on their own, mirrors that also serve as screens, lights and heaters that work with voice commands and many other smart solutions, all operated through apps. As I mentioned above, solutions that offer water saving are explored, through sensors, adjustable water pressure, smart water heaters, etc.

I also mentioned the presence of spa-like facilities. We see massagers, towel warmers, and new showers that include aromatherapy functions.
