Cafes and restaurants with Scandinavian décor in Copenhagen

Καφέ κι Εστιατόρια με Σκανδιναβική Διακόσμηση στην Κοπεγχάγη

A personal guide to cafes and restaurants in Copenhagen

If you had asked me a few years ago, I couldn't have thought about my life in a Scandinavian country. Maybe because I love the people and the sun of Greece so much that I never thought to leave my country. But things went out differently from what I imagined and now it has already been four years in Copenhagen.

The city is love at first sight and because of my professional status, it is the quintessence of design, of architecture and decoration.

Large green parks, canals, countless bicycles and beautiful neighborhoods that are a mixture of past, present and future, contribute to a pleasant atmosphere of euphoria and peace.

So I quickly convinced myself that I could live for a few years in this country.

What was the best way to get to know the city? But of course walking through the markets, bakeries, cafes and restaurants, trying all these different things that I encountered in front of me.

That is why today I will not write about decoration, but I will take you to my favorite places in Copenhagen and maybe if you find yourself in this beautiful city we will meet in one of them.

Torvehallerne
Frederiksborggade 21

I'll start our day at Torvehallerne market, sipping coffee and staring at passers-by, cyclists and the flowers at Stalks & Roots.

The large deli market Torvehallerne, has a number of restaurants and cafes that you can explore, after first wandering and seeing all the delicacies with the favorite licorice of the Danes, chocolates, wines, fresh multigrain and sourdough breads, the famous puff pastry with aromatic vanilla cream and fresh butter, fruits and vegetables from all over the world, salmon, herring, shells, meats and wonderful cheeses. The market is an excellent introduction to Copenhagen's culinary scene and is visited by many locals every day.

You can end your visit to the market by dining at Hallernes Smørrebrød tasting the national dish of Denmark, the traditional open sandwich, in Danish Smørrebrød, with rye bread and whatever imaginative combination you put your mind. Take a taste below.

The Union Kitchen
Store Strandstræde 21
Øster Farimagsgade 16
Lille Strandstræde 16

And after breakfast, comes brunch, one of the most beloved habits of Danes.

The Union Kitchen is one of the places you can't describe it in good enough words. Their brunch is dreamy, with avocado on toast, scrambled eggs, Waffle, croissants, smoked, salmon and fresh bread. All this in a chic and up-to-date environment, in whichever of its 3 stores you visit.

Of course, beyond brunch, at the Union Kitchen you can also enjoy your morning signature cappuccino, a relaxed lunch or dinner, even evening wine or a cocktail.

Apotek 57
Fredericiagade 57

Entering the design brand store, Frame's Studio Store, you will discover the small restaurant Apotek 57.

The alternate menu focuses on simplicity and includes homemade options with high quality seasonal ingredients. But regardless of the season, it is always sure that you will find an excellent selection of delicacies, dishes that you will want to photograph and wonderful coffee.

The restaurant brings together design enthusiasts from the local community and around the world.

Apotek 57 is located right next to the Nyboder district.

After your meal, be sure to take a walk and explore the neighborhood.

Ø12 coffee & eatery
Øster Farimagsgade 12b

Another great brunch option is Ø12 Coffee & Eatery. Ø12 Coffee & Eatery opened its doors in 2019 and combines everything you might want: coffee, food & drinks, in a beautiful interior.

Coffee lovers will enjoy fantastic espresso, perhaps among the best in Copenhagen. In part, this may be because they are the only restaurant in Denmark to have the espresso machine, KB90 from La Marzocco, which makes them experts in the field.

As for what to try on the menu: one sure choice is the avocado smash, as well as waffle with vanilla cream, tartar and its sweets.

Beau Marche
Ny Østergade 32

After exploring the vintage boutique, Beau Marche, then visit its hidden, picturesque cafe. There you will be waited by a small space, which has an almost Parisian atmosphere. The walls are decorated with works of art, books, antiques and wine bottles.

You can try a croque madame or salade chèvre chaud and accompany them with a glass of Côte de Rhône.

If you are a fan of good food, interior design and vintage, this is the perfect Cafe for you.

Vinoria Lilo
Pilestræde 52

Another hidden gem in the maze of downtown streets. If you wander around Pilestræde street, you'll find Vinoria Lilo, a wine and pasta bar. Its hospitable, atmospheric, interiors, open kitchen and large plants, create an excellent environment to drink your wine and share seasonal pasta dishes and conversations with your friends.

Vinoria Lilo is a hangout for many of Copenhagen's locals, who enjoy the tranquil atmosphere of the bar, the polite staff and the wine collection. Vinoria Lilo proudly declares that it is a ”natural" bar with wine and pasta, which can be seen in its flavors.

Slurp
Nansensgade 90

If what you want is a quick, but hearty and satisfying meal, at Slurp, you'll find some of Copenhagen's best ramen.

Slurp is supplied with the best available ingredients, both locally and from Japan. From the noodles, to the broth, everything is done inside the restaurant.

Enjoy the warm atmosphere, the small collection of drinks that accompany the ramen, the relaxed and intimate environment and experience the Japanese hospitality in the heart of Copenhagen.

These two countries often give me the feeling that they share so much with each other, such as philosophy in design, object design, quality and culture in nutrition. That's why Danes love Slurp and I guarantee it's worth it.

Copenhagen is magical and waiting for you!
