Recently, the two styles of decoration, the Scandinavian and the Mediterranean, have been observed to mix, creating the Scandinavian - Mediterranean Style.

What is the Scandinavian Mediterranean style?

The Scandinavian Mediterranean style in decoration, is essentially the point at which the calm substance and authentic naturalness of the Mediterranean spirit meet the influences of Scandinavian decoration, creating a vigorously personal and sophisticated space.

The Mediterranean style is characterized by a particular, rustic, oceanic aesthetic, which we would meet in older times, in the province of Spain, Italy and Greece. When this particular charm meets the pure, minimal, sophisticated style of the Scandinavian countries, this unique style is created.

We can recognize the scandinavian mediterranean style in minimalist aesthetics, neutral color tones, simple lines, the use of natural materials and light wood, which are mixed with touches of bright and interesting colors, the presence of nature through plants and sea elements and the use of wooden furniture and Mediterranean patterns.

This style is also referred as Modern Mediterranean Style, which indicates the Mediterranean warmth with modern minimal furniture and decorations.

Homes with Scandinavian Mediterranean style have been found in our islands in recent years, mainly in the new luxury homes of large architectural offices.

How to recreate the style:

If your home follows a classic Mediterranean decoration it is not difficult to adopt the Scandinavian Mediterranean style, as long as you are willing to make some substantial changes that are in line with Scandinavian philosophy.

Empty the house from unnecessary furniture and objects.

The Scandinavian houses are characterized by few and necessary objects that help the lack of visual clutter. Release the space from small objects on shelves and tables and store furniture that simply fills the space. Keep a few furniture and objects that have value, personality and style. Quality is always better than quantity when it comes to the Scandi style.

Combine typical traditional elements with a minimalist approach and modern shapes.

Keep traditional materials such as stone, terracotta tiles, prominent beams. A rustic old table Frame it with typical wooden Scandinavian chairs, such as the Wishbone Chair (Y Chair) or Elbow Chair style. A statement of Scandinavian lamp, as in the style of Panthella Lamp, place it next to a rustic armchair. An Easy Chair Scandinavian chair place it between two Mediterranean -style sofas.

Change the color palette.

If you have adopted vibrant Mediterranean colors on the walls, it's time to change them to a more natural and neutral color palette. Use warm colors such as off -white, white ivory, white sea shell, champagne etc. But here comes the surprise. Create a Duotone Aesthetic, adding a second, intense color in your space. The most obvious option is to add blue or navy items. But you have other color options. Instead of blue, you can try more original color contrasts, such as orange, yellow, pink or green, colors inspired by the Mediterranean land and flowers.

Experiment with Mediterranean patterns.

We all know what a Mediterranean pattern may look like. It is reminiscent of a village, sea, nature. You can break the Scandinavian minimalism by adding a blanket, a carpet, pillows, and even tiles with a special pattern.

Choose natural materials.

Choose wood, mats, bamboo, glass, ratan, ceramics with organic forms, linen and cotton fabrics in neutral colors.

Use decorative items with character. Combine a classic mediterranean amphorae and terracotta candlesticks with modern ceramic designs.

Maximize natural light.

Create an open, airy and comfortable interior. Grow the openings of the balcony doors where this is possible and let the natural light pass wide.

Place dried flowers.

Dried flowers are important in the Mediterranean - Scandinavian decoration. They can be placed in jars or hang them at different places at home.
