What are the Interior Design Trends of 2024 - 2025;

Ποια είναι τα Interior Design Trends του 2024 - 2025;

Having now entered 2024 for good, it's time to make a review of the trends we've seen so far, and what we'll see next in 2025.

I find that the evolution of technology, historical events, weather conditions and other small and large factors affect our lives and the world around us. Not only in interior design, but also in fashion, in the food we eat, in packaging of products, in art, in the way companies do marketing and much more.

Studying articles and sources related to trends, I see four points stand out: Change, nostalgia, joy & happiness and sustainability. So I want to take these four points and apply them to the interior design trends, to see how the trends we see from studios and exhibitions are influenced by these concepts.

Change In the way we perceive the spaces

Change can be associated with many points. Firstly, more and more people are living the so -called Digital Fatigue. This has drove many of the top organizations and companies to aim to differentiate themselves, trying to create unique and interesting experiences that invite consumers to experience things. This is already a huge change, judging by how much companies have invested in digital marketing so far.

What we can see in relation to interior design is furniture that offers experiences you can share. One example is the Polymorphic sofas or "Sofa Systems" that invite you to sit with your friends and family.

Respectively we see the Return of the dining room table! Long dining room tables, with plenty of room for meals that are not limited to holidays. But even in smaller spaces, now the use of a smaller dining tables seems necessary. Also the adaptability is one of the key features of modern dining rooms. In 2024 we will see tables with adjustable height, expandable surfaces and built -in storage to make their presence useful. Even cafes and restaurants have changed their architecture to more support this common, open space experience.

Another big change we see is in combination of shapes. Aesthetics and functionality are merged and interesting combinations are created straight lines and fluid curves.

Nostalgia in a welcoming but also original way

I recently read an interesting article on food choices, which talked about how a large percentage of consumers seek and prefer food, materials, packages that is reminiscent of the past. There is a feeling of security and intimacy in the past. Therefore at a time when everything is changing rapidly around us from one day to another and now we have access and perception of this change, the past can be a welcoming shelter. The interior design always has a dose of nostalgia. So in 2024, design trends shift to a revival of timeless designs and some of the more special trends from the past.

We see companies like All'origine which supplies glass utensils, clay, fabrics, books, frames and more, which come from the decades of 1940 until 1960 have made their presence felt in big exhibitions.

Of course we see many designers and studios that reproduce this nostalgic style, creating new products with nostalgic aesthetics. The furniture produced have curved shapes reminiscent of the 1970s and 80s. We also look forward to seeing shades such as deep green, earthy orange, gold, purple and blue, which can be combined with classic neutral shades such as gray, brown and dark blue, and of course the classic pastels.

I can even predict that we will see many guides on how to reproduce the style of the 70s, 80s, 90s in our home and I look forward!

Joy & Happiness through free expression and uniqueness

This year, a large percentage of people will choose to spend money on fun activities that create feelings of joy and happiness. Slowly and steadily we learn how to be happier: to sleep more, to invest in our relationships with our loved ones, to take care of ourselves, to look at the positive side.

That's why many designers and design companies invest in creations that enhance feelings of joy and happiness. Such as the company Domus' collabotation with designer Yinka ilori for a series of tiles that use the characteristic use of patterns and colors by the designer, with dynamic, geometric lines and shapes used in traditional African patterns and architecture.

Similarly many designers and studios try to create interior design products that make us We are glad and do not take themselves so seriously.

Let's also not forget that authenticity, goes along with joy and happiness. So we see the re-emergence of the "quirky style": of the odd and special that makes a unique statement, with alternative shapes and impressive designs. Think of the shapes, materials and colors you have combined with the idea of interior design so far, to be freed from contracts. This authenticity offers a fresh and personalized perspective. Creators have the opportunity to experiment with different shapes, colors, techniques and textures.

So don't be afraid to incorporate unique lighting, artworks and peculiar decoration into your space.

Sustainability from all perspectives

Another year with sustainable, environmentally friendly approaches to furniture and decoration. What we see is a continuous development in solutions and ideas over the years. This trend can combine style with sustainability, with reused materials and responsible supply of raw materials, collaborations with local manufacturers and more.

This year, consumers have pledged to shop and consume less, taking sustainability one step further. In any case, this year we will see in the foreground many studios whose goal and mission is sustainability, such as that of Simone Post, with recycled materials in the foreground or Studio Pirouette which highlights ecologically responsible materials, and also focuses on the network of French artisans and suppliers it has.

Some designers, on the other hand, take the simple approach of creating objects that are realistic, useful and smart, paying great attention to the choice of materials and durability. This approach comes to lock in with the idea of consumers shopping less, because of course when you want to shop less it makes sense to invest in products that have less risk of breaking.
