The bedside table is a necessary and integral part of our bedroom. Even if we have a small space or if we are minimalists, no one wants to get up or stretch out of bed at night to grab their glass of water or cell phone. It’s a piece of furniture that offers comfort in the daily life of its owner.

But sometimes the classic choices are not necessarily the best for everyone. Maybe the conventional bedside table is not a functional solution for you due to the layout of the room, the need for more storage space, personal style, etc. Or you just don’t want to compromise on something classic

In this article I will present you with 6 unconventional ideas for alternative bedside tables, to change the vibe of your bedroom!

Bedside-small table

As a simple solution, you can replace your conventional bedside table with a literal small side-table. There are many options that can go with any style. This is ideal, in case you don't need storage space. Just a surface on which to place your lamp, book, and phone. You can choose a simple piece that matches the colors of your room or go with a table in bright colors and create a focal point in your room. A table in art-deco or mid-century style can be a good choice and match many different styles.

Bedside-Tree stump

In the same way as the side-table, the tree stump is an ideal choice in case you don't need a lot of storage space. If you visit a place that sells firewood you will definitely find the right tree stump. Use sandpaper to rub the surface of the wood to remove the excess bark and coat it with wood varnish. You can leave it in its natural color for a rustic aesthetic or paint it in the color of your choice.

If you have carpentry skills you can attach legs, or metal wheels on your tree stump, or create a small opening like a mini "shelf" for books and magazines.

Bedside-Chair or Stool

One of my favorite choices, since it offers a very interesting and minimal style, without any effort. Use an existing chair or look for a vintage one for an even more impressive result.

You can give a distressed aesthetic to a chair that you already have and don't need. Just rub it in several places with sandpaper and apply wood varnish. The same technique can be used on a stool.

For those looking for multi-purpose furniture, the bedside-chair or stool can be used as an extra seat if needed.

Bedside-Shelf

When we try to cram a lot of furniture into small spaces, then we make them look even smaller. You can easily meet the needs a bedside table offers, by installing one or more shelves next to your bed. There are hundreds of choices in terms of style, color, size and application. So you can choose the one that suits your bedroom decor and your needs best.

By using shelves you save extra space under them since they don't rest on the floor. You can put your slippers, books or a small floor lamp there.

Bedside-Suitcases

A more special and unconventional idea is to use one or more vintage suitcases. Dust off the forgotten suitcases you have in your attic and give them a new life. If you don't like their color or if they have bumps and scratches, you can easily correct this problem by spray painting them.

If you don't have suitcases like that in your home, but you like this idea, all you have to do is visit a second-hand shop. You will find many options at good prices.

Bedside table from Unconventional materials

Sometimes the secret that will give a completely new style to your space is hidden in the choice of material. Instead of going with wooden furniture for your bedside table, you can experiment with alternative materials. Glass, metal, cement, plexiglass. A bedside table from these materials can automatically give a modern, industrial or alternative aesthetic to your space.

Always make sure your choice meets your needs and is functional.

If you have enough space, it would be a good idea to think about decorating your bedside table. What would you like to see in the morning when you wake up? What would make your day? A vase of flowers, an elegant frame with a photo from a trip, a scented candle, a souvenir. You can also use a tray to hold various small items organized, such as your pen, notebook, watch, remote controls, etc.
