The top interior design trends for 2018

Τα επικρατέστερα στιλ εσωτερικής διακόσμησης για το 2018

During our visit at the major Maison et Objet show in Paris, we have seen that the 2018 interior design trends reflect individual's need to reunite with nature by seeking harmony in its peace and serenity and drawing inspiration from the natural way of life. The bold, eccentric ideas of 2017 are no longer in fashion. For this year, the trends seem to be pointing to more practical and environmentally friendly design solutions. So it is my pleasure to share with you that the Scandinavian style is a trend!

Scandinavian style

The Scandinavian style give emphasis in simplicity, minimalism and functionality. This movement was first begun in 1950s and has undoubtedly given elegance at homes.
Celine Manz for Denmark is an icon of the Scandinavian design and was recognised at Maison et. Objet trade show, as the designer of the year 2018, for her work which marked the international design scene.

Hints

If you wish to have minimal but cosy homes like the Scandinavians, don't hesitate to combine objects from the mid-century period, as long as their colours match.
You’re literally spoilt for choice: from the Eames Side Chair DSW or the Eames Lounge Chair or a Schwung lighting. Even one designer piece is all it takes to accentuate the room aesthetic; in this way, you can watch your décor instantly transform before your eyes.
Dress your floor with small light colour rugs, single coloured or with geometrical patterns.
White should be the prevalent colour on the walls. Still, paint one of the walls blue or dark to give depth to your space.
Finally, the plants are must decorating elements. They will give freshness and make your space vivid.

Mid century style

Here comes the ultimate star trend of 2018 in furniture and lighting.
First emerging in the early ‘30s approximately, the mid-century style kept going strong well into the ‘60s, though commonly confused with the school of modernism for some time. It’s regarded as one of the most significant artistic and architectural movements with widespread influence on all aspects of design evolution. Many pieces of furniture belonging to that period are now considered classic and can easily be integrated into modern homes.
They are characterised by clear, minimalist lines – at the same time, however, they also sport the curves and rounded edges essential to bringing out a warm and mild dimension in the final outcome. The wooden items are mainly made of teak, walnut, oak and rosewood.
Among the most representative architects and interior designers creating mid-century style are Alexander Girard, Ray and Charles Eames, as well as Eero Saarinen.

Hints

If you already own a sofa reflecting this certain period, don’t hesitate to upholster it in a modern, 2018 colour – the end result will be nothing short of playful.
Make sure, though, that the surrounding colours complementing it remain in neutral shades.

Mid-century lights are also making a strong comeback to grace our spaces with brightness and luxury. Metallic chandeliers in gold or brass emit abundant light through white glass ball bulbs in various sizes. Notice how they stand out in the room like jewellery, adding the final touch that perfects the magnificent outcome!

Βoho chic style

Go for cushions in boho patterns on a solid colour sofa and pair them with a woollen rug in the same style. This season too, the Bohemian style still retains its dynamic role in decoration and offers us decorative results of special power and intensity.
